Indirect Questions (Reported Questions): How to Report Questions from Others

A reported question has statement word order (subject + verb), no inversion, and usually no ? inside the clause.

Yes / No — if / whether

• "Do you like tea?" → She asked if I liked tea.
• He asked whether we were ready.

Wh-

• "Where do you live?" → He asked where I lived. (not where did I live inside the report)
• "What is her name?" → She asked what her name was.

Polite embedded questions (not always a report): Could you tell me where the station is? — statement order again.
